What is your favorite hobby or pastime?
Hobbies change over the years. I’ve often been inspired by something and then pursued it for awhile before moving on to something else. I don’t think that indicates a lack of attention span or sticktoitiveness, but rather an endless curiosity.
Of course, on the downside, it does remind me of the character in the film Adaptation. who collects things voraciously and then suddenly says, “F—- it!” and goes on to something else. I usually just find something new I want to explore without expletives.
At the moment I’m wearing my Porcupine Tree The Incident tour T-shirt. That band and album reignited my love for progressive rock that had been dormant for awhile. In 2009 I heard a story about Steven Wilson on NPR, gave a listen to that album, and suddenly plunged into the world of progressive rock. While I no longer have my weekly DJ gig in Second Life, I still follow and celebrate the genre.
Other hobbies and pastimes over my adult years include furniture refinishing, dollhouse furniture making, and Steampunk DIY. Since I no longer have the patience or facility for such crafty items, they reside in the past.
For now, I still love directing plays, though it’s been awhile, and I’m looking forward to doing that again. Soon.
But, as always, there’s writing. Since high school, I’ve wanted to be recognized as a writer. There have been novels, short stories (so many!), this blog, poems, one act and full-length plays, a couple of memoirs (one still in progress), my podcast, and some films. I think that’s everything. Currently I have about 10 writing projects in varying states of progress, from a couple of descriptive paragraph to completed scripts. When I’m really in the zone writing, it puts me in the same flow state as directing does, so the creative assembly of words into stories inspires me as it has for decades.
I hope you enjoy these flows of words; it always helps to know someone is out there running their eyes over my work. Please let me know if you are with a like, comment, and/or follow!

Love the t-shirt!
You recently introduced me to Chatgpt. I am having way too much fun using the App to write.
I’ll share the sonnet produced regarding the hobby I consider time well spent.
In gardens where Kathy’s love takes root and grows,
God’s glory shines through every bloom and rose,
Blessed by His gifts, the beauty all around,
Plants sprouting, flowering, with colors unbound.
Working the soil with gentle hands so kind,
She tends to life that nature has designed,
Breathing in fragrances so delicious and pure,
In this garden, love and beauty endure.
Hearing the pollinators in their graceful flight,
Working their magic, bringing day to night,
Kathy’s heart swells with nature’s sweet song,
In this garden, her love forever strong.
For in the garden, she finds God’s embrace,
A place of love, beauty, and boundless grace.
