Community Involvement

What do you do to be involved in the community?

During my academic career my community involvement happened through my campus. I provided entertainment for the area through my theatre productions, and occasionally ventured out into schools to talk about career-oriented topics. For the most part though, my involvement was extremely limited (partially limited by the small amount of free time I had).

In the past (as I mentioned recently in another post) I worked for elections. And I have often contributed money to good causes, such as our local food bank. I realize these are rather indirect, and not very personal involvement.

Ideally, going forward, the plan is to create a non-profit theatre/performance group locally that will serve audiences as well as those wanting to perform. And part of that plan includes economic stimulus—get businesses involved, get people involved, and also provide art and entertainment to a greater population.

Actually, when I say “plan,” it is already being implemented. We have non-profit status, a board, and even a PayPal account. We’re on our way!

We’re working on it…

How about your involvement—what do you do to stay connected? Let me know in a comment, and as always, please like and follow!

  1. Very similar to your idea. I would love to have my own venue and be the host or MC. I used to make badass meals for the homeless out of my kitchen and drive around South Austin to find and feed my favorite “Homies”.
