Risk? Tsk Tsk

When is the last time you took a risk? How did it work out?

I decided about a month ago to respond to these daily prompts so that I would be writing at least a little each day. Some of the prompts have been great, but another one about risks? As a non-gambler and a person who is fairly risk-averse, I don’t have a lot to say on the subject.

But…

When I was meeting with a new financial planner, some of the questions he asked concerned my level of risk in my investments. Historically, I’ve chosen investments that have favored the social choice selections of portfolios, since I prefer to not contribute to global climate change and the end of the world. The few times I have tried to be more aggressive in investing, with either real estate (that’s always a good investment, right…?) or global equities (let other nations do what they will, and I’ll reap the profits?) led to more losses.

My current portfolio has a moderate level of risk in it, and I feel comfortable with that. I should also mention that, with my annuitized pension, investment annuity (set up by my financial planner), and most recently drawing on my late wife’s social security, I actually have more monthly income that when I was working. I must have done something right (which included hiring my financial planner!).

How about you? Are you preparing for retirement? Dont put your life at risk any more than others are doing for you! Let me know what you think with a comment, and please like and follow!

  1. Very insightful. I collect precious metals, have a shitty IRA, bought a few domain names, and bought $40 in crypto. The Crypto fluxes daily some days it’s up to $75. Right now it’s $46. Working with you and doing what I love.
