Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.
I think, after years of refinishing furniture and building and staining bookshelves, my most ambitious DIY project would be creating a costume for a Steampunk Grim Reaper.
I started with the base being an Australian drover’s coat, and added a skirt lol mask fronted by a breather mask, and capped with a top hat properly outfitted for both Steampunk and mortician wear.
I bought Steampunk pants and Demonia boots, and found a messenger bag that complemented the outfit nicely. Add a homemade scythe (safe since it was made from foam board) and a pocket watch, and a few additional touches and it was complete.
I did a photo shoot with a local photographer and attended a couple of cons in the outfit. I received some great compliments along the way.
And as I answer this writing prompt, it occurs to me that maybe a greater DIY project is upcycling my life in retirement!
