Life Is An Atom

What are your biggest challenges?

Now I could have started in ChatGPT and said, “Give me a metaphor for the challenges I’ll face in 2024,” but I already came up with that (in the shower, of course).

I feel that I need to approach life in the new year thinking about the structure of an atom.

How we think of an atom, with negative electrons spinning around a nucleus of positive protons and neutral neutrons.

First, I need to begin taking positive steps in several areas. For the new theatre group, we need to attract new followers and actors, schedule events, and develop our productions. Personally, I need to react more positively to my surroundings; I often tend to speak when I should realize it’s going to get me into trouble. That second area will be more difficult than the first.

Second, I have to combat negativity. In a way, this follows the second part of the above paragraph, but extends way beyond it. I have to say that people I talk to about the theatre group have been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve been interviewed by someone from a local paper who seems very willing to spread the word for us. At the same time, I get a lot of personal digs from people close to me about how it’s not going to work. I would never call myself an optimist (at least, not without qualifying it with “cautious”) but at this stage of my life, there’s too little time to dwell on the negative.

Finally, I have to try to appear neutral on a lot of issues while we build our clientele. Talking religion or politics could easily derail some of our potential alliances. Not that I want to work with racists (having recently attended a holiday party and being seated at a table with one), but some minor differences can be set aside in pursuit of art.

Of course, if they get crazy on me, the bonds will weaken and the atom will split, and you know what happens then.
