Hamster Sacrifice

What sacrifices have you made in life?

One of my Intro to Theatre exam questions, concerning the creation of sound effects for films, referenced the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 version of The Cave Dwellers, and the possible choices for the sources of those effects were: The Foley process (the correct answer), Snakes growling, Human sacrifice, and Hamster sacrifice.

As for sacrifices in my life: as I think about this question, I can’t come up with anything worthy of the term. Another Intro to Theatre exam question dealt with the sacrifice of the hero in a tragedy. To this date, I may have had some inconveniences and occasional hard choices, but there is nothing I would classify as a sacrifice.

I don’t want to jinx it, but I would label my life (once again in terms of an Intro to Theatre exam question) as a comedy; some twists and turns have happened, and I have some minor regrets, but there has been nothing tragic. Occasionally farce has entered the picture, there is the sporadic moment of melodrama, and I approach some aspects of my life with satire. But I’m hoping for an eventual happy ending, with some applause and perhaps a few tears of joy from others as they look on.
