Digitize Me!

How has technology changed your job?

I’m retired now, but technology continues to play a large part in what I do.

I started using technology with HyperCard back in the 1990s. I used it to project my class notes on a screen. This was great because my handwriting has been on a long decline since I received those handwriting certificates in Catholic grade school. Eventually I switched to PowerPoint when HyperCard stopped working.

I have long used technology in every facet of theatre production, from making the programs and printing tickets to audio editing the sound cues to occasionally including video in productions themselves. Digital technology has been a game changer.

And that is of course true for my research and publications which deal with using technology in the classroom, including virtual worlds. In fact, I would venture to guess that most people who know of me have become acquainted with my work in digital tech.

The bottom line for me is; if not for technology, I would not be as well-known, and would not have been as efficient in preparing for productions along the way.
