Telling Tales Out of School

What could you do less of?

When I announced my retirement, people asked, “What are you going to do with your time?” My answer was always, “Travel and creative projects.”

Since retirement, there’s been a little travel, but I thought there’d be more, and I’m hoping there is in the new year. Also, I have a stack of creative projects that I’m in the midst of—not to mention daily work on the new theatre company, StoryZ.

I feel that a lot of time each day could be allotted to travel planning and writing/producing, but much of it is spent trying to figure out which house project gets today’s attention, and then working on that, or simply moving things from one location to another, and then awaiting the time they will be moving again.

Do you know those hand-held puzzles where you have tiles with one missing, and you have to move them one by one to get the picture? That’s a large portion of my life right now. And I hate those puzzles.

My life in a 2-D representation.

So what could I do less of? Moving things around that will just get moved again. What could I do more of? Get rid of things. Reduce, reduce, reduce. But they’re not mine to get rid of. So the puzzle continues.
