Katzen Monkees (Mit Photos)

What are your favorite animals?

I thought I would embed the answer to this prompt in the title, and maybe you’d look at it and say, “What!?” And this would lead you to read on.

So, favorite animals. First of all: monkeys. Can’t tell you why, but I really respond positively to them. Mostly chimpanzees, but many species of monkeys. For years I tried to find a stuffed monkey that would serve as an avatar or totem for that affinity. And then I finally found Maui in a card store right after my aunt’s funeral. He’s been with me ever since.

Maui!

And of course, cats. I’ve always been a cat person. I was that guy who would come to someone’s house, and the owner would say, “Oh, my cat doesn’t like anyone”—and then the cat would be on my lap. Luckily, I became romantically involved with another cat person, because I just couldn’t be around dogs. Not my thing.

Casey (above) and Hunee (below).

I did want a black cat, and adopted Katia for a brief while. But she was older than the shelter said, and when she started biting us and Casey, we had to take her back.

Plotting that next bite…

I think you can see why Hunee was a better choice!

There are other animals I like, but these are the top two!

  1. Monkeys are deeply mesmerising mammals. If my source is right a hybrid ‘humanzee’ have been created (2020) from embryos in China and America. Now they will be even more compatible with us. Despite all the intrigue in that, I believe that when my St. Bernard daughter looks deep into my eyes…I know we’re having a dialogue. Her many, many pix are on my WP blog for you to share. Cheers.
