Hazy Lazy Days of…Retirement?

Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

I recently visited my storage unit and brought home two boxes with stationery supplies. I’ve run out of good printer paper and had to resort to printing with these thin sheets I found in a desk drawer. I feared they might get stuck inside the printer while making their trek through the wheels. I also brought home three boxes of file folders left over from my late wife (who often spent more time getting organized that actually doing things). Three full boxes of file folders might be more than I need for a regular lifetime, not in retirement.

However, I immediately put some to good use by trying to clean up my desk area. The folders allowed me to organize some things that have been accumulating, such as info from the Chamber of Commerce (my theatre and performance company, StoryZ, recently joined). The desktop surface now looks a little neater.

And yet it’s staggering how many projects I have going at once. Notes for a new novel about some Knights Templar and Hospitaller, my Digital Tech Memoir in progress, a detective play, a short film script I plan to shoot next month, an audio version of Goethe’s Faust (just Part One right now), and so on. There’s also my audio drama, Kid Again, which still has four episodes to be edited together. Notes for a variety of other things I started or are somewhere in the planning stage. Of course there’s also the theatre company and all the organizational stuff plus planning some future productions.

I do try to get something done on at least one of these every day. Sometimes that doesn’t happen, and I do wind up feeling unproductive. At my age, if I do want to leave these writings and projects to the world, I should use every spare moment I can. While sometimes I do think, “Wow, I shouldn’t have played that game that long,” a measure of relaxation is important.

By the way, I don’t mind wasting my own time playing a computer game or watching TV, but I hate when other people waste my time.
