Having It All

What does “having it all” mean to you? Is it attainable?

Is “having it all” attainable? Well, first, I think it means success in career and a happy home life, and checking off all the boxes on the bucket list.

Incidentally, does anyone know where the term “bucket list” came from? I know there was a movie with that title, but I assume the screenwriter(s) got it from somewhere. But I digress.

I think having it all can be attainable, but that’s a process that can take years, if not decades. I only recently became financially solvent, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the method that brought me here. (Spendthrift spouse’s death provided a healthy insurance payout, which was followed by good financial planning advice and retirement funds which took 31 years of teaching to accrue.)

I also have many friends but I don’t get to see them as often as I’d like. And I have a few projects in the hopper but need more time to work on them. Travel seems to be happening, but at a slow pace.

So yes, it’s attainable, but it takes a lot of hard work and and constant effort. Someone might say it takes luck, but I think work and effort pave the way for luck to enter the picture. Is it worth it? Why, yes!

Let me know your responses, and please like and follow!

  1. In the United States the phrase “having it all” has been imbued with toxic meaning.
I think there was once a time when the phrase meant “having what really matters”. Now, sone politicians, malicious corporations, etc. I don’t want people to think about what really matters. and they definitely don’t want you to think about what you need to do to have those things that really matter. And they absolutely positively don’t want you to think about things that you need to refrain from doing to have what really matters.

They want you to always be wanting. Wanting what? Everything and more. and much much much more of whatever they are selling.
Many in the media want you to always want more safety and security….. and they want you to be sure to always be turned in when they are on so they can teach you what you need to know to protect yourself from “them”.

    A little edgy I know. 🙂

  2. Maybe two or three happy and intelligent kids. A partner that loves and enhances our children and me. I’m fine with an apartment and a bus pass as long as my kids and wife are happy.
