A Positive Prescription

I heard an interview with the outgoing Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy during which he spoke about his parting prescription for Americans. When faced with a choice between “the status quo, marked by pain, disconnection, and division” and “a different path—one of joy, health, and fulfillment, where we turn toward each other instead of away from each other; where we choose love over fear; where we recognize community as the irreplaceable foundation for our well-being,” he suggests the latter.

And how best to accomplish that? By rebuilding community through “relationships, service, and purpose.”

My recommendation for how to do this? Participate in theatre! Whether onstage or backstage, you will meet new people and develop acquaintanceships and friendships. Being involved helps the theatre and the local community through your service. Finally, by taking part you will find yourself engaged in a meaningful purpose, on both a personal and societal level.

Take Dr. Murthy’s advice and become involved in local theatre today. (And for those located near to us, StoryZ is here and ready to help with that.)

Warning: getting bitten by the theatre bug could result in a lasting, enjoyable, and fulfilling infection.
