Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?
Looking at photos of my youth, you can often see me posing with a Huckleberry Hound doll. He was my constant companion for a few years.
And then, at some point, he just disappeared.
I asked my mother about all of my toys—the GI Joes, the Hot Wheels, Huck—and she didn’t really remember giving them away, but assumed she had.
And imagine the killing I would have made on eBay with just the GI Joe stuff! (My cousin called me once and asked if I still had it; sadly for both of us, no.)
For years I thought about Huck, and then one Christmas, I opened a present for my late wife. Speaking of eBay, she had found one there. He wasn’t identical to my original, but he was close enough.
And he hangs out nearby in my office where I do my current work.
