With Civility, Of Course!

In what ways do you communicate online?

My answer to this prompt, found in the title, is possibly not what the question intends. But if we had more of that, the world would be a better place right now.

As for what means or apps, I use: buckle up—there are a few!

Of course I check Facebook to see updates on friends and family, and to post info about my various projects. Unfortunately the Facebook algorithm tends to feed me ads for games and various groups rather than info about people I know. Sometimes there’s a great deal of scrolling to find something interesting.

I try to post something daily on TikTok. As @audiochimera, I tried posting political and satiric things, but nothing stuck. So you will see mostly cat videos from me there, though there is an occasional wry comment or visual joke on something.

I tend to then post the output of the TikTok post to Instagram (as @audiochimera) and Facebook. For awhile there, an Instagram post went right to Facebook, but now that doesn’t always work. What changed? Who knows?

I also repost some things to LinkedIn. Sometimes LinkedIn gets more responses than the other media, and sometimes not, depending on the content type and area.

I started using SnapChat again, and mostly continue there for the improv work with the scammers who send me connect requests. Usually they follow the same bland script: What’s your name? (which is at the top of the screen, duh!), where are you located, what’s your age, can I see your pictures? And then after a couple of other one-line exchanges they ghost me, realizing I’m not giving away my bank account info. Although I do have three right now who are hanging on, and I’m assuming going for the long con, really trying to convince me that they are who they say they are.

Of course, there’s the StoryZ newsletter, with a monthly news roundup for the theatre group. And then there are videos on our YouTube channel, StoryZStudios.

The one method I use you might be most familiar with is this blog. I try to post daily and occasionally schedule posts a few days out to keep my streak going.

I really don’t know, other than likes and an occasional comment whether people really pay attention to my online communications. Hopefully they do, but there’s certainly not enough evidence to support me doing an OnlyFans.

I really don’t think the world needs that.

Feel free to add me on any of the above, and send me your email address to be added to our email list for the StoryZ newsletter.
