If you had a million dollars to give away, who would you give it to?
A friend of mine (if you read yesterday’s blog entry on skydiving: that friend) once said, given the odds, if he was ever struck by lightning, he’d ask the paramedics to take him to buy a lottery ticket before the ER. Perhaps after that dive, he should have made the lottery place his next stop.
Also yesterday, someone asked me what I’d do with a billion dollars if I won that PowerBall lottery. No, I didn’t play, if you were wondering.
But…for the sake of the prompt, what would I do with a million dollars? First, pay the taxes, so I know how much money I have to work with. Second would be to set up a scholarship fund at UC Berkeley for Theatre/Performance Study students, so the graduate who was told by certain professors there that he would never finish (me) would be remembered as a positive influence on future graduates.
Third, I’d buy myself a building and renovate it so I had my own theatre, and provide operating expenses for three years until it began generating sustaining revenue on its own (or until I really did retire!). I figure I should reap some of the benefit myself.
With the remainder, I’d set up a charitable foundation that would help various organizations. That, along with the above scholarship, would help others to a better life, which has always been part of my subtext.
What about you—what would you do with that sudden influx of more cash than most people know what to do with? Let me know in the comments, and please like and follow!
Commendable! I would take the lump sum, buy a boat, some land, a trailer home or two lol. A second car. A huge cache of gold.
