Was today typical?
In the last few years my vocabulary of words with prefixes has grown. Words normally (hah!) normal gained new variations having “neuro-” added to them. There’s “neuro-typical” and “neuro-divergent” joining the older “atypical.”
When the prompt asks, “Was today typical?,” my first response is: well, I just started my day, so it’s too early too tell. (I write these posts after my first cup of coffee, and then schedule them for a later release.) My second response is: asking about typical is like asking if something is normal; a long time ago I learned that “normal” is a setting on a dryer. (Or washer.)
But if I ask, is any day typical, I have to say yes and no. Events follow a certain pattern, and they are typical of my life, but that doesn’t mean they are typical of other human beings’ lives. Starting a theatre company from scratch takes me immediately out of that category. And, when surrounded by other atypical behavior patterns exhibited by others, or at least ones I’m not used to (and no, I’m not going into detail), pretty much every day is a challenge.
