One of the lessons of the modern online world is that, when you accuse a scammer of being a scammer, they try to convince you they’re not—and therefore confirm that they are. And they often do so by sticking to their script which is even less convincing.

Short and…Sweet?
Sometimes the wrong number testers just can’t do the distance. “Two” wit:
You Gotta Be AI-Kidding Me!
Frequent readers of this blog recall I like to reproduce text chats with “wrong number callers” for your amusement value. One of my friends commented that many of these correspondents are likely AI. This is probably true of the one I received yesterday. This illustrates my lack of concern for AI taking over the world.Continue reading “You Gotta Be AI-Kidding Me!”
Threesome (Part 2)
I was beset and besieged by 2 wrong number scammers at once. The first one kept denying there was a script while staying on it.
Threesome! (Part 1)
Or four… Nana, Erin, Erin2, and me. Two simultaneous wrong number chats. The second to arrive sent me two photos of her: I think you’ll agree they’re not the same person. So, epic fail. The best part of this was, I complimented her on her hairstyle which the first started with. Might as well useContinue reading “Threesome! (Part 1)”
Forget the Ruse…Back to the Script
When I started to get the wrong number text scams, they at least tried to stay on script for awhile. WhatsUpp??
For awhile now, I’ve been documenting the “wrong number” scam. They text me, suggesting I’m someone they know and, when I say I’m not that person, they follow their script, apologizing and then asking questions to “know me better.“ The middle game seems to be to get connected on WhatsApp or Telegram, but lately they’veContinue reading “WhatsUpp??”
Wrong Number & Mood Swings
Labor Day 2024 wasn’t a holiday for the wrong number callers. I think this was #5. And how they hate—literally!—when you point out that you know what they’re doing.
You’re a Character—Or Two
Another wrong number text message hit my phone this past weekend. “She” started on the offensive (there’s probably some chess gambit I could refer to here) but I hit back immediately. You have to admire them for only wanting to be friends. Anytime the conversation goes sexual, they deflect. I should probably be grateful forContinue reading “You’re a Character—Or Two”
